Version 2026-09-01
Nautilus provides legal information, not legal advice. Its answers are generated by an artificial-intelligence system; they may be incorrect, incomplete or out of date, and no lawyer has reviewed them. Using Nautilus does not create a lawyer–client relationship, and your communications with Nautilus are not covered by legal professional privilege. Verify anything material against the cited sources, or with a qualified lawyer, before acting on it.
Section 9 (Nature of the service) and section 13 (Liability) deserve particular attention.
Test phase. Nautilus is currently offered in a test phase: access is by invitation only, the service is free of charge, and it is operated by a private individual rather than a company. Features, legal coverage and these terms may change during the test phase.
These terms form a contract between you and Snezhana Boots, a natural person resident in the Netherlands, who operates Nautilus ("Nautilus", "we", "us"). "You" means the person who holds and uses a Nautilus account.
By creating an account or using Nautilus you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, you may not use the service.
Lawyer accounts are held by an individual practising lawyer who uses Nautilus in the course of their profession. The account belongs to the lawyer personally, not to a firm. For the personal data contained in the matters a lawyer brings to Nautilus, the lawyer is the controller and Nautilus acts as processor; that processing is governed by a separate data processing agreement between the lawyer and Nautilus, which prevails over these terms on the processing of personal data.
Consumer accounts are held by private individuals acting for purposes outside their trade, business or profession.
Provisions marked (lawyers) apply only to lawyer accounts; provisions marked (consumers) apply only to consumer accounts. All other provisions apply to both.
Nautilus searches a curated database of legislation and court decisions and uses an AI model to produce, on the basis of the provisions it retrieves:
You may upload documents (up to 150 pages per conversation) for Nautilus to take into account.
The service covers the legal domains enabled on your account. The domains currently offered are Montenegrin law (Serbian) and Dutch law (Dutch). Coverage differs between domains, is not exhaustive of any jurisdiction, and changes over time. Certain matters are excluded — see section 9.3.
Each account carries a usage allowance, expressed in euros, which is consumed as you use the service. Usage is metered per request and is visible in your account. When the allowance is exhausted, the service stops generating answers until the allowance is renewed.
During the test phase Nautilus is provided free of charge within the allowance granted to your account. We may introduce paid plans in the future. We will inform you before we do, and you will not be charged unless you have first expressly agreed to a price.
If you purchase a paid plan, you have the right under EU consumer law to withdraw from the contract within 14 days without giving a reason.
If you request that the service begin within the withdrawal period, we will ask you, separately and expressly, to acknowledge that you lose the right of withdrawal once the service has been fully performed. Without that acknowledgement, performance begins after the withdrawal period ends.
You may exercise the right of withdrawal by notifying us at contact@nautilus.legal. No particular form is required.
This section applies only once paid plans are offered.
Nautilus is intended for researching legal questions, preparing documents and understanding legal positions.
You must not:
(lawyers) You remain bound by the rules of professional conduct that apply to you, including your duty of confidentiality and your duty to review work before it is provided to a client or a court. Nothing in these terms displaces those obligations.
You retain all rights in the questions you submit, the documents you upload and the templates you create. We claim no ownership of them.
You grant us a non-exclusive licence to store, process, transmit and display your content solely to the extent necessary to provide the service to you, including transmission to the service providers listed in the Privacy Notice. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account.
We do not use your content to train, fine-tune or evaluate AI models. Should we wish to do so in future, we will seek your separate, express opt-in consent, and refusing it will not affect the service you receive.
You warrant that you are entitled to upload the material you upload, and that doing so does not breach any duty of confidentiality, legal professional privilege, court order or third-party right.
Legal questions frequently involve other people. Include only the personal data your question actually requires, and where a question can be put without identifying a person, put it that way.
(consumers) Because Nautilus is the controller of the personal data you submit, we ask for your explicit consent before processing sensitive information, and you may withdraw that consent at any time. See section 3 of the Privacy Notice.
(lawyers) As controller of the personal data in your matters, you are responsible for having a lawful basis for the processing you instruct and for informing your clients where required.
Subject to these terms, you may use the answers and drafts generated for you. We claim no copyright in them.
Please note:
Nautilus provides legal information. It does not provide legal advice, does not represent you, and does not create a lawyer–client relationship with anyone. It does not know the full facts of your matter, cannot take account of what you have not told it, and cannot take responsibility for any decision.
(consumers) Your communications with Nautilus are not privileged and do not enjoy the protection from disclosure that applies to communications with a lawyer you have instructed. If your matter is significant, consult a lawyer.
All output is generated by an AI system from the sources it retrieves, and is identified as such in accordance with Article 50 of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act. As a result:
You should verify the cited provisions before relying on them. Sources are cited precisely so that you can do so.
(consumers) Where a question concerns a criminal matter — a charge, an investigation, an allegation or a conviction — Nautilus will decline it and refer you to a criminal defence lawyer or the appropriate public service. This restriction follows from the limits on processing criminal-offence data explained in section 3.2 of the Privacy Notice. Rephrasing the question will not change the outcome, and the declined message is not stored.
Nautilus will also decline questions concerning a jurisdiction outside the domains enabled on your account, and may ask you to specify the date as at which a question should be answered.
We aim to keep Nautilus available but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. We may suspend the service for maintenance, for security reasons or in an emergency, and will give notice where reasonably possible.
The service is under continuous development: features change, legal coverage expands and models are updated. We will not make a change that materially reduces the service without informing you in advance.
(consumers) Where EU law on the supply of digital services applies, we will keep the service in conformity with the contract, including by supplying the updates necessary for that purpose, and you retain the remedies that law provides if we fail to do so.
By you. You may terminate at any time by deleting your account in account settings. Access ends immediately, and your data is erased after a 14-day grace period, during which signing in again cancels the deletion. Section 8 of the Privacy Notice describes what is erased and what is retained.
By us. We may suspend or close your account if you breach these terms, if we are required to do so by law, or if your use presents a security risk. Except where the breach is serious or delay would cause harm, we will first notify you and give you an opportunity to remedy it. We will give reasons and, except in the case of a serious breach, a reasonable opportunity to export your data.
Discontinuation. If we discontinue the service, we will give at least 14 days' notice by email, during which you can export your data, and we will refund any amount paid for services not yet provided. Your data is then erased in accordance with the Privacy Notice.
The Nautilus software, user interface, curated database, search methods and prompts are owned by us or our licensors. These terms grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use the service and no other right. You may not copy, modify, decompile or create derivative works of the service except to the extent permitted by mandatory law.
Legislation and court decisions in the database originate from official public sources and are reproduced under the conditions those sources impose.
This section should be read together with section 9.
Liability not excluded. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, for intent or gross negligence, or any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable law. (consumers) Your statutory rights as a consumer are not affected. Where a provision of this section conflicts with them, those rights prevail and the provision does not apply.
Subject to the preceding paragraph:
(lawyers) Reviewing output before it reaches a client or a court is your professional obligation, and the service does not discharge it.
You will indemnify us against third-party claims arising from your use of Nautilus in breach of section 6, or from material you uploaded without being entitled to do so. This section does not apply to consumer accounts.
The processing of personal data is described in the [Privacy Notice], which forms part of these terms. (lawyers) The processing of personal data in your matters is governed by the data processing agreement referred to in section 1.1.
We may amend these terms. We will give at least 30 days' notice by email of any material change and publish the amended terms.
(consumers) If you do not accept a material change, you may close your account before it takes effect, and we will refund any amount paid for services not yet provided. Continued use after the change takes effect constitutes acceptance, but only of changes of which you were notified.
These terms are governed by the laws of the Netherlands.
(lawyers) The competent courts of the Netherlands have exclusive jurisdiction.
(consumers) You retain the protection of the mandatory provisions of the law of the country in which you are habitually resident, and you may bring proceedings before the courts of that country. We invite you to contact us first so that we can try to resolve the matter.
If any provision of these terms is held unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in force.
